Technology has always had a positive impact.
Medical history is littered with the names of people who refused to accept advances in medicine and the treatment of disease, sometimes suffering fatal consequences. Today however, technology is a key component to improving our health and in particular, the treatment of infectious diseases such as AIDS. There are many examples of this type of technology, from MRIs and X-Rays to antiviral drugs and gene therapy.
Technology has always given the medical profession something to think about and it is only now that the consequences of that technology are beginning to really show. One example of this is the development of the MRIs. MRIs, magnetic resonance imaging, allow doctors to identify problems in the inner ear which can then be treated. However, before these devices were created, doctors had to do a lot of research on the human body and internal organs in order to create these images. This research was not only expensive, it also meant that it took a long time before the first MRIs could be used successfully, with patients receiving the treatment between three and five times.
The other area where technology has had a major impact is the treatment of certain types of cancer. It was not possible to treat breast cancer or leukemia with traditional methods before the introduction of chemotherapy. MRIs and similar imaging technologies enabled doctors to view cancerous cells up close and determine their location. This enabled early detection, meaning that the earlier cancer was detected, the better the chances of successful treatment. This of course, saved many lives.
Technology in general has had an overall positive effect on the medical profession and the treatment of diseases. In the case of cancer, we now know how to surgically remove cancerous cells, use radiation therapies to kill existing tumors, and treat such conditions as leukemia with biological therapy. The removal of diseased tissue, the removal of dangerous tumors and the use of certain medications have drastically improved the survival rates for some cancers and undoubtedly benefited those who suffer from them. Some diseases though remain incurable. The advent of technology has had a huge impact on this.
When it comes to our health and the treatment of diseases,
Technology is a very big part of the answer. It enables us to live longer, better lives. Without technology, we would still be suffering from the consequences of poor diet, lack of exercise and other such factors which compromise our health and cause us to succumb to disease and even death.
There are so many areas in modern life which benefit from technology. Everything from mobile phones to video surveillance cameras to air conditioning systems and refrigerators can be said to have been born out of technology. So technology, when it comes to our health, is not only improving, it is an enabler.
As a result we are living healthier and longer, enjoying better healthcare and not only that but living longer and richer lives as well.
